The Aslandian Empire is an Imperial state that serves as a successor to Italy, yet also as a new state entirely. Founded after the fall of the Italian government, it represents a newly sprung and unique cultural nation which seeks to expand and spread its civilisation across the Sea.

History[edit | edit source]

Before the Fall (pre-2052 AD | pre 0 PI)[edit | edit source]

The era before the fall of the Italian Republic, which has become known since as Year 0 PI (Post inundo). During this period of time, the continuing rise of sea levels as a result of human intervention caused unforeseen troubles for the Italian Republic, as millions lost their livelihoods and began to rebel against a government that could not support the populace. Eventually, as a result of these interactions, the Italian government fell and chaos took over the country. In 2048, the Italian Government signed a treaty with a budding republic in the South, but by 2052, both the Italian government and this new Southern Republic had fallen into chaos, and law, order, and society quickly broke down as a result.

Klerigado Epoko (2052-2082 AD | 0-30 PI)[edit | edit source]

Italian citizen Alexander Lionmark, immigrant from Britain became the first leader of a small community found on the island of Sardinia. His community, became the largest remaining society on the island after the collapse and chaos. He worked to build a strong and unified government on the island and briefly unified the Island under his territorial control. Recognising linguistic differences and factional warring, he implemented educational codes that allowed for the use of a single language, known as Esperanto.

Additionally, Alexander Lionmark established a currency and a bank for the country, a working military and police force, and implemented justice codes. Most importantly, he left behind a clear structure of government, where power was centralised in the ruler, but advisory divisions also remained. In 11 PI, he established the new capital city of the Empire, known as Romego on the mainland. For the remainder of his life, he would rule Aslandia from this Coastal city and would be buried there at his death in 30 PI.at his death, he was granted the era name "La Kleriginta Imperiestro," or "the Enlightened Emperor."

Konkero Epoko (2083-2100 AD | 31-48 PI)[edit | edit source]

After the death of La Kleriginta Imperiestro, his son Emperor Lukas was declared the next Emperor of Aslandia. During his reign, Emperor Lukas established colonies on the former French island of Corsica, and expanded the influence of Aslandia into former Northern Italy. During his reign, he fought against the "Marŝo," the "Floreno" and the "Tuscano" tribes primarily, expanding on the coastline and pushing these tribes back into the agricultural wilderness of the peninsula. The realms of Emperor Lukas represent the height of the first Aslandian Empire. At Empperor Lukas' death in 48 PI, the Empire collapsed into civil war between three feuding brothers. At his death, he was granted the title of "La Konkeranta Imperiestro."

Tri militanta ŝtatoj (2100-2149 AD | 48-97 PI)[edit | edit source]

After the death of La konkeranta Imperiestro, the his three sons split the Empire three ways, each hoping to become the paramount power in the region.

La Unuiĝinta Epoko (2133-2152 AD | n/a)[edit | edit source]

During the Three Waring States period, Emperor Nicolas was succeeded by his son Emperor Alexander in 2133. He ruled over the reunification of Aslandia in 2149, and continued until he passed away in 2152. Afterwards, he was named the unuiĝinta Imperiestro for his work in reunifying the Empire and was succeeded by his eldest son, Emperor Alexander

La moderna Epoko (2152-PRESENT AD)[edit | edit source]

After the death of La unuiĝinta imperiestro in 2152, Emperor Alexander, now new reigning Emperor of Aslandia, swore that he would follow his legacy but would revolutionise the budget and the status of the citizens of Aslandia. For this purpose, he began with a series of reformations, granting education to all people until they reached the age of maturity, bumping up literacy rates in Esperanto. Additionally though, he cancelled subsidies for many sectors of the economy, lowered the amount of people in the military but doubled the military budget, made voting for seats in the council universal, made child labour illegal, allowed the beginnings of immigration through a visa program, and most importantly, created a secret police that would become known as the "Sekreta Polico," or SP (though its formal name would be Servistego, "the great servants.") These reforms would mark a huge change in Aslandian policy, greatly strengthening up its military power while also drastically changing the social dynamic of the Empire. Many of these things were wished for by the citizens, but others were despised. Overall, the La Imperia Reformo was accepted as a good measure, increasing social stability and strengthening the state during the war against Carthage and Hungary.

In addition, the Mediterranean War that was started during the reign of the former emperor was successfully ended with a victory for Aslandia, resulting in the creation of the Kingdom of Algeria and the expansion of Aslandian influence at the expense of Carthage.

Geography[edit | edit source]

Aslandia has a warm climate overall, as a result of being on the Sea. Temperate winds grace the land, and mild hills stay on the coast, while on the outer boundaries of Aslandia territory on the peninsula exist the former Apennine Mountains, still as great and tall as they once were. Fertile farmland ensures that food is not too hard to come by and that the average citizen can get by just fine.

Demographics[edit | edit source]

The ethnic majority of the Empire is Aslandian. Minority groups include Sicilii, Corsican, Sardegni, Milani, and Florenci.

Government[edit | edit source]

The Empire is a near absolute monarchy where power is rested in the emperor. Outside of the Imperial branch though, exists four separate branches which serve under the Emperor and govern when the Emperor does not concern himself. They are: 1) the Grand Assembly of Nobles, 2) The High Courts of Justice, 3) the Imperial Household, and 4) the Imperial Ministries.

Economy[edit | edit source]

The Empire is primarily a trade based economic power, with approximately half of its budget as well as wealth coming from trade. Industry and resource acquisition also play a significant part in the economy as well. Additionally, a strong functioning military is a huge boon and cost for the Empire.

Education[edit | edit source]

Education is not mandatory and is purely optional. The Empire provides free educational centres until children are adults within the main cities of the Empire, but the vast majority of citizens do not live within the city centres, or choose rather to work early on for a living. Those that do have the luxury of free time though, are able to receive fine education in culture and arts.

Culture[edit | edit source]

Aslandian culture developed after the fall and is strongly tied to Esperanto culture. The Aslandian people consider themselves to be guardians of the Esperanto language and relics.

Naming customs[edit | edit source]

Aslandian people use several names to identify themselves. Every Aslandian citizen generally has the following: 1) A birth name, 2) A self-given name, 3) a Family name. In addition though, wealthier citizens will often have a temple name, and military commanders and people with achievements will also take an honour name. The Emperors will additionally receive an era/posthumous name at their death, and a holy name. The current Emperor's full name is Alexander Nicholas Christian Unifier Lionmark. In typical address with the Emperor, one would only use his Honour name if necessary at all. Members of the Imperial Household who are older are permitted to use the birth name, while younger members of the family are only permitted to use the self-given name. In temple and religious duties, the Emperor's temple name, Christian would be used instead. At death, a new name will be given to him based on his accomplishments, and will be what he is known by in all history.

Cuisine[edit | edit source]

The Aslandian cuisine and diet is heavily based on consumption of fish. Fish is eaten with every meal, and serves as an essential part of the Aslandian diet. Sea bass dishes are extremely common, while new species of sturgeon are also eaten for their succulent flesh and delicious eggs. A common dish is known as tranĉaĵego. In this method, a chief will first filet the fish, and then cut the filet into extremely thin, thread-like pieces. From there, these will then be stretched out and cooked lightly with spices and oil, flash fried at the end very quickly. These thin, lightly fried strands are then removed from the oil and left to rest. Large but thin slices of fish are placed underneath these thinly fried ones, and greens are added on top . On top of the dish is a creamy rice based sauce dish, often incorporating a bit of chocolate and pepper. The dish is known as tranĉaĵego due to the importance of slicing. Once the dish is done, the large, contiguous piece of fish is picked up and wrapped around the delicious contents inside, and the top is gathered together and tied together with sturdy grass. As these are meant to be small (think sushi sizes), these are often then eaten in one bite, with the grass being pulled out after. Many varieties of this important cultural dish exist, and are all together known as "pakinto" dishes (wrapped dishes.) An Imperial feast (celebrated once every new year) is represented by a day of eating, with 100 unique pakintoj dishes prepared painstakingly by chefs.

Another important part of Aslandian cuisine is soup.
