Macedonia is a direct democracy made up of land from the former countries of Macedon, Greece, Albania, Serbia, and Bulgaria.

History[edit | edit source]

During the Fall, Macedonia's main military force, the 1st Mechanized Brigade, marched on Skopje, instituting martial law and preventing the capitol from falling into total chaos. Brigadier General Илија Вељановски - Iliya Veljanovski the man in charge of the Brigade established himself as the Dictator of Skopje and set about reestablishing control.

Although he attempted to found a royal dynasty, Veljanovski was impotent, and with the loss of much needed medical equipment and expertise in the Fall, he was unable to sire an heir. As a result, towards his death, he called together the leading citizens of the five major cities of his empire, as well as his leading officers. They hammered out the details of the state following Veljanovski's death; the state was to be split into several city-states, each managing its own affairs while contributing to the protection of the other cities and expanding the lands under their control through conquest.

However, once Veljanovski passed away, his lieutenants refused to honor his wishes and attempted to seize control of the country, proclaiming one of their number as the new dictator. The Macedonian people then came together in open revolt, throwing aside both Veljanovski and the lieutentants, and organizing a new government away from the corruption of individuals. The first total government encompassing direct democracy since ancient Athens.

Since then, all Macedonians have had to work together to expand their borders and power, with every war by the will of the people. Generals are elected by the soldiery before war starts, with those that perform poorly thrown aside by more skilled tacticians. During a time of true crisis, the Macedonians are also able to vote for a Dictator, who has power for a year, or until the crisis is averted, though since the death of Veljanovski, there has never been another.
