Old Libya

Old Libya is a Nation in the land formally known as Libya. The Freedom of Conscience Document published and signed February 13th 2062 was used as a galvanizing tool to keep the greater Libyan population together after decades of social, political, and natural change. Old Libya has access to The Mediterranean sea to the north, but shares no land borders with any nation. Although an untamed section of land separates Old Libya and The Great City of Nova Carthage on its western boarder.

History[edit | edit source]

The Late 2030's and early 2040's were filled with instability, massive political struggles, and overall social unrest. The Great Flood ravaged Libya’s major cities. Benghazi was wiped completely of the map, and Tripoli nearly disappeared overnight. Hundreds of thousands died in those cities, while over 2 million died with many more displaced. Most people abandoned any place close to the Mediterranean and migrated south to what became known as The Jamahiriya Location. Millions of others went unaccounted for.

  • Pre-Flood

Libya had fallen into the hands of numerous factions. Pro-Islamist groups controlled most of the eastern boarders and ports of Libya, while Nationalist to the west, and foreign funded rebels to the south controlled the rest of Libyan land.

  • Post Flood

Despite the massive carnage, suffering, and displacement caused by the flood many Libyans saw the flood as an opportunity. Political Ideologies were tossed to the side and the displaced begun to rebuild. By 2058 The Jamahiriya Location's population had stabilized at around 22,000 people and the process of selecting small groups to reclaim Libya was begun. As the story goes a small army of men went around asking locals who they would want to be represented by in a new government. After writing down the names of these "elected" individuals, Intellectual and community organizer Ahmad Shebani narrowed the list of hundreds down to 15. These 15 individuals were then asked if they were interested in leading a reclamation of Libya. 12 said yes, 2 no, and 1 was mysteriously found dead.

  • The Twelve Individuals, their professionsand their age are listed as followed:
    • Zuhra Al-awji- Teacher, 38
    • Mohammed Khalifa- Imam, 40
    • Ibn Yahia- Head of Jamahirya Militia, 45
    • Nadia Tillisi- Teacher, 28
    • Embarek Shamekh- Merchant/Trader/Raider, 35
    • Jadallah al-Qu'ad- Community Organizer/Farmer, 25
    • Abbandonanto Abba- Musician/Writer/Hunter, 28
    • Lubna Maghur- Soldier in Jamahirya Militia, 29
    • Ibrahim Fakroun- Doctor/Chess Master, 60
    • Wanis Shennib- General in Jamahirya Militia, 34
    • Umar al-Muntasir- Doctor, 47
    • Sayyid al- Barouni-Doctor, 41
  • 2062 The Freedom of Conscience Document was signed on February 13th 2062

. It reads:

      • It was with the good conscience of freedom that these 12 men and women agree to a return of The Libya of Old. Not the return of Religious and Political oppression, but the establishment of a Free nation. A nation with freedom of thought, speech, and religion.- Jamahriya Twelve

The signing of that Document inspired the population of The Jamahirya Location to reclaim what was left of Libya's borders. With the people inspired, The Twelve divided into 4 Groups, Recruited around 2500 of the most able bodied people available, trained them and set off.

  • 2062-2097* Reclamation Wars and Freedom Doctrine

For 35 years the groups fought of the remnants of old enemies. From the religious zealots still having strong holds in the east, too towns in the west overrun by barbarians that sold child slaves to survive in the central and northwest areas. Throughout all of this The Jamariyah Location became a hub for all things Old Libya. Refugees from surrounding areas and places devastated by the wars came to Jamariyah. By the end of the wars death tolls had been held to a minimal level overall. The doctrine of freedom that the people of Old Libya quickly accepted was becoming a way of life.

  • 2097-2150*

During these years the implementation of democracy was tested more internally than by any outside influence and was slow to implement. Early on the solution was simple, have one central government in Jamariyah and have representatives from major cities/outposts receive orders from up top and organize elections every six years to elect a leader. This idea bred a resentment of government and rumors of revolution were always whispered about. What seemed to hold Old Libya together during these years were the fact that no one was being exploited.

  • 2150-2152 Present day Libya

President Uman Barouni made a decree in 2150 that effective immediately their would be an establishment of four national political parties:

  • LLF Liberal Libyan Front(Center Left) Led by Hussein Fikini
  • LCP Libyan Civic Party (Center Right) Led by Umar al-Rida
  • LIP Libyan Interest Party (Libertarian) Led by Sayyid Yahia
  • LSP Libyan Science Party (Democratic Socialist) Led by Mohammed al-Muntasir

These parties, according to President Barouni " filled the true spectrum of common sense politics that will hold up the ideals believed in by The Twelve". He also established a Legislature with 80 Representatives, 4 from each province and twenty senators, one from each province. On top of that a Supreme Court that would be elected by the president would have five seats. Each seat would be held until said judge retired. The Individuals and the names of these judges are to never be known to the public, nor the party or ideology they lean towards.
